We had such a great week....I personally enjoyed getting to know all the kids even more than before.....you should be very proud of them, not just as their parents, but our church family would be very proud if they saw these kids in action. See some of you tomorrow! Miss Lori :-)

Hi Everyone! This is my first blog...been kind of busy :-) Other than lack of sleep the week is a lot of fun and the kids are really AWESOME! I continue to learn more and more about each child (is that good or bad?????) Of course its good! Lori
I had a nice day. We went to two residents homes at the nursing home. The first resident was nice. She wanted us to clean her windows. She had a small dog named peaches or peach I'm not sure. The next resident loved us. She had a dog too. It was a lab named noah. She needed her windows cleaned but, was more interested in just hanging out with us. She hung up on her grandson for time with us. When we got back to the main house we got ready for a memorial. It was for all the people that died that month. Their was also a farmers market in the hall. We played uno w/ one of the resedents w/ altimers. She called it you know. She won mostly. Caitlin
I had fun today. We went to two houses to wash windows and one of the ladies was REALLY nice and gave us candy and soda and cookies. She had a golden retriever named Noah that all of us loved. I think she was more happy about us just visiting for a while than she was about the windows getting cleaned. Then we came back and showered (FINALLY!!!)c: -marleigh

Monday Night
had a great first day coming and the excitement just keeps coming :) Holly
we went to a old people home and did a lot of things with the people. we got to know a lot of them. we ate donuts.them we ate lunch. we plaed bingo it was so funny. half the time they did not here us that was fun. :)stephanie wenrich
i woke up at 5:23 this morning and my air mattress was deflated. It was so bad because I didn't want to wake anyone up with my inflator/deflator.I then rolled onto the ground so it didn't get anyone up. I pulled my blanket and my fitted sheet onto me and rolled around til it was about 5:30. When I finally decided that sleep was nearly impossible I got my clothing and went into the bathroom. Next I got my toothbrush and toothpaste to go brush. I did all this while documenting everthing including the other kids waking. First came Stephanie, then Holly, then Lori. The song to wake you up was just doo daa doo doo made into a tune. Breakfast was waffles w/ yougurt and fruit on the side. They also had hard boiled eggs, toast, and cerel, but I didn't have that. We went to a nursing home and played lots of fun games like yoga in chairs, and bingo. Other than the morning I had a great day (sorry for rushing) Caitlin

We all had a good time, and got to learn more about all the kids and grow as a group. We helped out at Mennonite Central Commitee, pulled weed at New Joy, had lunch and took a hike at the Project also we had our devotions while on the trail sitting by a stream and small waterfall. So it's soon off to church, can't wait to spend a week with these kids in York it's going to be a fun adventure.

Tuesday - 1/2 day of service and then crew free day
Today was our scheduled "free day". We did a half day serving the community of Pittsburgh and then after mid-day devotions we were free to explore. First we enjoyed a day at the Pittsburgh Zoo, followed by supper at Bob Evan's, then off to blow off steam at laser tag. The day ended with evening devotions on the sidewalk in front of the school. The cool evening air was very refreshing.

Monday - first day of service
The KIDZ did their first day of service projects today. Our theme was the vine and the branches. After our evening devotions, some of us made video blobs. Internet access is very limited here but will try to post the videos in the morning.

Day One
So tonight we received our crew assignment. We should have many opportunities to share God's love by serving the local area. Well lights out.
Oh yea, Kolby let his new shirt lay and Mr Terry found it; Kolby had to do a dance in the hallway to get it back. Good times ... good times.

Made it
Made it to Pittsburgh, stopped at 911 flight 93 memorial on the way. The only event on the way was a trailer tire that needed changed but we saw that before it caused a problem.

Mini Mission Week-end
Well...the time has finally arrived and is now over for the final preparation for our trip to Pittsburgh. This week-end was all and bout learning to work as a team work, and communication and probably most important how to do live together. This was an exciting week-end to say the least. We had lots of fun working and playing together. Our team building activity was fun..thanks Mr. Terry.
Now starting the final packing stages and getting the final things together for our mission trip to Pittsburgh. Just think..this time next week we will already be on the road.
Please keep us in your prayers as we take 11 of our preteens on an exciting adventure and a week of growth.

Sunday Morning Mini Mission
What a great weekend!!! On Saturday we went to the MCC and assembled health kits and tore books apart for recycling! Some of the boys wanted to work some electric drills so Mr. Brian from MCC found something for the boys to do!! They loved it!
Then we headed to Miss Deb's house!!! When we got there, we were welcomed with a wonderful lunch ready for us!! ~After our tummies were full, we went to work! Some of us painted a wooden basket and a little end table! Others sanded and painted her porch while other weeded and mulched her floor beds!! It was a hot day with some water breaks but the kids kept going! These kids kept focused and kept on task!! They did awesome!!! These kids did an awesome job and we even had time to paint the picnic table!!!
After so down time, we had an awesome team building game!!! It was quite refreshing since it was played with water balloons!! When the activity was over, we discovered we have a little bit of communication work and team work to work on!!!
After dinner, we relaxed with a movie and some pop corn!! The kids worked so hard this weekend! Can't wait for our trip next week!!! Miss Missy

Well when the stiches were being stiched into me. The numb stuff hurt when they put the needle in and i got a tetnise shot. Then it was all over. I had an awsome tim on sat. getting use electric screwdrinver. I got to pull weeds, paint, and put down mulch. I hated the water balloon game because i was supost to block Missy and Gloria. It was fun at first but then i got nailed three times and no one else would be the blocker and i was going to quit but then bowdie was the blocker and i kept playing and then we lost. The next time we play i'm not going to be the blocker at all. We are going to wacht a movie tonight and i am goning to blow my head off if i don't guess what it is. I'm so crasy. I'm going to tell you if i guest it or not. Bye. :)

There, we tore up books and checked health kits to see if they were paked right. Then we packed up to go to Deb Mussers house. When we got there we ate hot dogs and hamburgers. Then after that we got right to work. i weeded a really big flower bed and then we mulched it. It looked really good after we were done! Then we came back to my house and wrote in our journals. After everyone was done we had our dovotional time. It was about teamwork, to practice team we played a game. It was wet!! We played with water balloons! I filled up the water balloons while Alisha tied them up. Now we are going to watch a movie. Dont know what it is yet though!

Hey this is Meredith blogging =] On Friday it turned out that it was time for our mini missions trip I was very excited. When we got there at 7:00 a.m it was already time to get all our stuff set up and ready for bed. Mrs.Moyer was really nice and lent me a air mattress to use until Sunday. Then everyone was called up to a snack of chips and grapes the grapes were all crisp and yummy as they went on the long trip through my stomach. After snack we had a meeting all the grownups told us about how we had to work together as a team then a important e-mail was read to everybody and it told us how there wouldn't be any air conditioning at the school we're staying at for the mission trip also it told us what jobs we would be doing at the missions trip. Later Mr. Terry was very nice and made a fire at the fire we roasted nice crispy gooey marshmellows and drank water or flavor packets in the water. We all went inside then and went to bed but sleep didn't come easily I couldn't fall asleep until about 1:00 in the morning
I woke up and it was Saturday morning I got up and got ready for the day by brushing my teeth and hair. Then it was time for breakfast we had pancakes, fruit, and sausages. Dear ,
I am writing to tell you about a ministry opportunity that I will be involved with this summer. These are unique opportunities for me to serve and to grow in my faith.
This outreach will be a week long service project that I will be participating in this summer with New Joy Church KIDZ. I will be spending a week doing service projects and sharing God's love in the communities around Pittsburgh, PA.
This outreach project, known as “Week of Hope” through the Group Workcamp organization. Service projects on this youth mission trip might include running a VBS, preparing meals for the poor, or cleaning the home of an elderly person. We'll be working in the Pittsburgh community from July 24th to July 29th. We will also stretch our faith as we learn more about Jesus, and find practical ways to share Him in the community. I am looking forward to this exciting and challenging week! You can learn more about Group’s Week of Hope” at this web site Short term youth mission trips - Week of Hope.
I am looking for people to partner with me in this opportunity through financial and prayer support. I must raise $248 for the Week of Hope registration, so if you would be interested in helping me financially with this week of service, you may write a check to New Joy BIC Church.
For tax purposes do not fill out the memo line on the check; instead indicate on another piece of paper that you are supporting me for these specific events. A tax-deductible record receipt will be issued to you. Any funds received that go beyond my needed $248 will go into the youth fund to help with the youth outreach ministry.
Thank you for considering partnering with me in this great ministry opportunity. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me, my parents, or my church.
Thank you for your prayers and support,

2011 KIDZ Mission
Have you heard; next year's KIDZ mission trip is already in the planning stages.
We will be travleing to Pittsburgh, PA July 24-29, 2011. Planning has already started and people are already signing up. We have reserved 15 spots for the trip so don't delay; if you will be 10-12 years old on the date we leave for the mission trip - you are qualified. Adults are welcome as well.
During the 2010 trip we saw great value in the time that we spent working with our team prior to the trip. Since we have more time to plan this trip, we will be getting the potential mission workers together one time each month to develop that same team spirit.
Please let us know if you are interested so we can put your anme on the contact list.

Kayleen Martin News
I don't know if all of you know, but Kayleen Martin was signed up to go with us on the KIDZ mission trip but has been sick for some time and was unable to go along. She is now in the hospital getting treatment. You can go onto the website her parent’s setup for all of us to keep informed of her progress (instructions below are from Karen Dunlevy).
Go to the website at http://www.caringbridge.org/ . When you go to the website, to get to Kayleen's website, you need to enter - KayleenMartin (no spaces) on the right hand side where it reads "Visit a Website". You can post a comment on the journal. Kayleen will get these messages on her TV.
I'm sure Kayleen would enjoy getting encouraging eCards or journal entries from each of you.

Great Day!
We had a full day of service today with renewed energy after having some time to relax yesterday (Tuesday).
After a very moving evening lesson about the father's love in the Prodigal Son and some prayer time, two of our KIDZ ask Jesus into their heart tonight. Only moments before I had asked God for this mission trip to have a lasting impact on the lives of our KIDZ. I am sure they will be excited to share their experience when they return.
CLEARLY, God is at work in the lives of everyone in Manassas, VA this week!

Tuesday - some time to unwind
Tuesday was our short service day and the entire afternoon and evening was FREE time.
In the morning Crew 3 did trash cleanup in Georgetown South and Crew 9 worked at the food shelter bagging cereal and jelly beans.
Every day we have morning program, at lunch time we have crew devotions and in the evening the entire camp worships together. We also made some new friends from other churches.
For free time today the New Joy KIDZ found a near by pool for some play and relax time. Later, after a great meal and time of fellowship at “Old Country Buffet” we were off to Laser Tag.
It was a very good day for all!

We Finally Made It
Well, we finally made to Manassas, Va. for the Mission trip. It seems like a long time ago since we started planning on those cold days back in January. Those cool days are just a distant memory now - HOT and sticky here.
After a great blessing service at New Joy on Sunday the travel to Manassas was uneventful (good when traveling!). Excitement was rising as we began to see signs for our destination (and the girls saw some malls close by).
Our facility exceeds our expectations, as Miss Missy put it, and the staff is wonderful and brings life to the entire group. We received our team assignments last night and will be going out this morning to see what God has planned for us.
Got to go now but hope to post some video late tonight.

Mission Trip
I am so excited to go on the mission trip! I’m excited to see what different things we will be doing in Manassas, Virginia. I want to experience serving God by helping other people. I think it will be very fun! The mini mission trip went very well, and I think the real mission will be perfect. I’d like to thank Ruth Keenan for praying for me.

Team Building
KIDZ Mission team building lessons continued last night. We found three truths in the Genesis chapter 11 passage that we can apply to our mission team.
* The Tower of Babel story has a clear message that reminds us to check our motives
* Verse 6 – working together we can accomplish great things
* Verse 3 – We can improve our process
Some insights that were gained through the team building activity last night:
First try – Failure
* We failed without a plan and without communication
Second try – Some success after the teams developed a plan
* The team communicated and had a to work together in unison
* We were successful after everyone understood the language (instructions) that were being given during the activity
* Only one individual was giving instructions during the activity
Third try – Success! Improved progress
* Improved our communications plan and everyone worked together even better.
Reminder that Sunday (05.16.10) is our “pot luck” lunch after church. We will have more trip details, packing lists, contact information for parents, review code of conduct, fellowship, etc. See you there.

Final Paperwork Due
Camper Envelopes were distributed last night. You will find more details about the trip in your packet. Please return your SIGNED "Camper Information" forms to me by Sunday (05.09.10) because they will need to be mailed into the GROUP office next week.
So Now it Begins
I am really looking forward to the mission trip with these kids. Last night (05.05.10) we had our first in a series of four meeting to prepare the kids for service. Our focus last night was on team work and all the different roles required in accomplishing a large task. Our devotion was from Nehemiah and we talked about how they all worked together to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. We also had a team activity that required the kids to work together and communicate in order to accomplish a task. When we did the debrief exercise, I was amazed at the “takeaways” these kids had on teamwork; their insights even exceeded my expectations of many adult teams I’ve worked with in the past. We were also successful in our secondary purpose of building trust between the leaders and the kids. God is at work in these young people’s lives and it is my hope and prayer that the mission experience will further solidify their faith.

Dealing with homesickness
Okay, nearly every child is going to deal with homesickness (to some degree) when it is new for them to be away from home for an extended period of time. The Boy Scouts deal with this very real concern with parents and many thousands of first time campers each year.

Keep the kids involved
Parents, when you visit this site, please encourage your mission bound kids to read about the trip with you. We want to keep them involved and excited as the mission draws nearer.
Talk to them about what concerns they have about going on the mission trip. Encourage the kids to share their concerns by adding a comment to this post. We will post the comments, without names, so they know they are not alone. This will also help the leaders to know what issues need to be addressed so that our kids feel comfortable going on the mission trip.
You can also encourage them to add comments about the things that excite them about the mission trip.

Dear
I'd like to share with you a trip that I am going to take that will hopefully be a life changing experience for the people I come in contact with, as well as me.
This is my first mission trip and I am very excited. Along with about 15 others from New Joy Church, our team will be traveling to the Manassas, VA from June 13th thru the 18th. While we are there we will be completing a number of service projects that will touch the lives of many in the community. Through this we hope to make an impact on those we serve by sharing God’s love.
Now, all I need is the money to get there. We will be involved in fundraisers to earn money; however, I will need sponsors. Any amount that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. If you are sending a check, please make it out to:
New Joy Church
35 New Joy Drive
Ephrata, Pa 17522
In the memo line write "KIDZ Mission" and add a note with the check indicating that it is to support me on the mission trip. I believe that with prayer and God's help my financial need will be met.
Please pray for me as I prepare for this mission and while we are there. Pray that people will see the love of Jesus through us and will be touched in some way. My prayer is that this trip proves to be life changing for the people of Manassas even more than for myself.
Thank you for letting me share with you what will be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. If you cannot help in a financial way, please help support me with your prayers.
